武汉海事职业学院是经湖北省政府批准，经教育部备案具有独立颁发学历文凭资格的全日制普通高等学校。学院办学属于行业办学。依托交通运输行业，学院以“立足长江、注重特色、服务海事、面向社会”为办学定位，以“适应航运市场，突出技能特色，培养优质人才”为治院方针，以为交通运输行业培养技术技能型人才为己任，致力于建设环境一流、设备一流、管理一流、师资精湛、特色鲜明的国家级示范职业院校。学院有着近40年的航海职业教育办学历史，面向全国招生，历年来为航运事业培养了航海专业人才近七万人，毕业生职业资格考证合格率处于同类院校领先水平，部分毕业生已成为航运企业及海事机构的领导或业务骨干力量。学院注重三个文明建设，先后荣获“湖北省文明单位”、“湖北省重点职业技术学校”、“全国文明单位”、“中南地区职校百佳校园”、“交通运输行业一流职教中心”等荣誉称号。学院位于武汉市黄陂区滠口经济开发区，交通便利，环境怡人，办学条件优越，占地近600亩，现已建成综合教学楼、图书馆、实训楼、评估楼、船员考试楼、学员公寓、运动场馆等，整体建筑面积近10万多平方米。教学和训练设施齐全，学院建有30多个媒体教室、500余台教学网络计算机，建有先进的船舶操纵模拟器、船舶轮机模拟器、雷达模拟器、航海仪器实验室、船舶主机实验室、船舶辅机实验室、船舶消防与液货船训练场、客滚船训练场、水上训练基地等30多个实验室，实训条件处于同行业领先水平。师资力量雄厚，拥有一支开拓性强、理论教学水平高、实践经验丰富的双师型师资队伍，持有海船三副、三管轮适任证书及以上的教师91人，其中持有无限航区船长、轮机长适任证书的教师30人。学院海上专业实行全封闭、半军事化管理，按照船员教育和培训质量管理体系要求，对教学流程与后勤综合服务进行全方位规范化的质量管理。
